M/Y Indian Empress

Indian Empress, formerly named Al Mirqab, was launched in 2000. Her steel hull was built in Durban, South Africa then the aluminium superstructure construction and fit-out was completed by Oceanco Yachts shipyard at the Alblasserdam Yachtbuilding shipyard. She was originally owned by the Qatari Royal Family, then bought by an Indian businessman, Vijay Mallya in 2006 when she was renamed Indian Empress.

Vijay Mallya purchased this impressive yacht at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation charity auction, 2006. Elton’s black Yamaha Disklavier Grand Piano which he had composed his chart-topping Songs from the West Coast album was included in the deal and took pride of place in the main saloon.

Indian Empress is one of the longest superyachts in the world (53rd longest motor yacht as recorded in October 2018). She can accommodate up to 32 guests and a crew of 42.

In 2009 Scott Taylor his expert paint team carried out fairing repairs and repainted Indian Empress in Valetta, Malta.
