Yacht Refit Phuket

Yacht Refit Phuket is refit and project management for yachts in Phuket, managed from the branch at Ocean Marina, Thailand. Yacht Refit Asia does not keep a separate office in Phuket, and it does not publish a Phuket shipyard. The Thailand company is Yacht Refit Asia Co., Ltd. (Thai reg. 0205562024126). The founder and owner is Scott Taylor, EST. 1990. The published telephone number is +66 (0)80 829 0122. Email is info@yachtrefitasia.com. Opening hours are not published.

The branch page is Yacht Refit Thailand. Enquiries can also go through the contact page. Phuket sits inside Thailand. It is not a fourth country beside Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Independent owner's-side management

The project manager works for the owner. A Phuket programme uses the same owner's-side role as the rest of Thailand: one written specification, a like-for-like comparison of quotes, and one project manager for budget, schedule and coordination through to redelivery. The owner is not asked to run the yard, the contractors and the paperwork as separate jobs.

Independence means Yacht Refit Asia is not the place where the yacht is lifted. The company plans the work and coordinates it. Where the work is carried out in Phuket is agreed from the specification and from the places that can take that scope. No Phuket yard is named on this site. Bangkok Dock is a Thailand project site and is described on the Thailand page. It is not described here as a Phuket yard.

Reporting comes from the branch at Ocean Marina, Thailand. Owners use that branch before the vessel is committed, and while the programme is under way. The postal address of the branch is on the contact page. The head office remains Yacht Refit Asia Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. A Phuket programme does not move the head office, and it does not create a Vietnam office. Vietnam work, when a programme also includes Haiphong, is still carried out under the contract of the Thai company.

Refit process

A Phuket refit follows the published sequence. A pre-refit condition survey comes first. A written specification is prepared for tender. Yards are asked to price that specification so the owner can compare like-for-like scope. Dry dock coordination, where the specification needs time on the hard, covers the slot, the docking plan and daily liaison. Budget, schedule and quality control stay with the project manager. Class and flag documentation travels with the programme.

Class on these refits follows RINA, Lloyd's Register and Bureau Veritas. Class liaison includes ABS. The society on a given vessel is the one appointed for that vessel. This page does not appoint a society for a Phuket programme that has not named one. A chemical and paint-use licence is a general part of the company's work. No course, certification or ISO standard is claimed.

Every refit and repair programme managed by Yacht Refit Asia carries a written workmanship warranty. An approved system also keeps the guarantee its manufacturer gives. A hazardous task starts only when the site lead has checked that a valid permit is in place, displayed at the job, and closed out when the task ends. Those controls are described on the health and safety page.

The same process, written as general steps rather than as a particular Phuket job, is on the refit guides: specification and tender, yard selection, budget control, class and flag liaison, sea trials, warranty work and crew handover. The management role is on Superyacht Project Management in Asia.

Typical scopes

A typical scope is whatever the written specification contains. In general, an owner's-side refit can cover a condition survey, tendering, contractor coordination, interior work, upholstery, dashboard refinishing, and coatings where the specification includes them. Coatings are carried out by sister company Superyacht Painters, under the same founder and ownership. Not every Phuket programme includes every one of those items. The specification is the list. Items that are not in it are not assumed.

Interior and upholstery work, where specified, is the same kind of scope described on the interior refit page. Products and systems used where a programme names them are on the products and systems page. This page does not add a scope that a published Phuket programme does not record.

The Andaman season

In general terms, the Andaman coast has a cruising season and a monsoon season. Owners often look at refit dates against the weeks they plan to be under way, and against the weeks they can release the yacht. Weather changes what can be done in the open and what needs cover. That is background for planning. It is not a calendar published by Yacht Refit Asia, and it is not a claim that a particular month is available.

The date of a Phuket programme is agreed from the vessel, the specification and the places that can take the work. The company does not publish opening hours, a haul-out tariff, or a standing dry-dock slot in Phuket. If the timing depends on a cruising plan, that plan is part of the enquiry, together with the scope.

A Princess programme in Phuket

The published proof of yacht refit in Phuket is a run of Princess programmes from December 2020 into 2021. Yacht, client and yard names are not used. The programmes are managed from the branch at Ocean Marina, Thailand.

Across those programmes, the published scopes are interior panel and dashboard work, with interior panels changed in colour; upholstery, including panels removed, stripped and refitted; gelcoat and veneer border repairs; interior and exterior sealant renewal; teak steps renewed in Burmese riftsawn teak; and interior work that included floor bleaching. One interior and upholstery programme ran from December 2020 to March 2021. Another upholstery and interior programme ran from February to June 2021. The other published Princess programmes in Phuket are recorded as completed in 2021. They do not all share one scope.

Those programmes are the evidence that refit work in Phuket has been managed from the Thailand branch. They are not a menu that the next yacht automatically receives. The next programme starts again from a survey and a specification. Case studies that carry the wider Thailand and Asia record are on the case studies page. The three-country comparison, in the order Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, is on Superyacht Refit Southeast Asia.

FAQ

Is there a Yacht Refit Asia office in Phuket?

No. The office is the Thailand branch at Ocean Marina, Thailand. Yacht refit in Phuket is managed from that branch. The published telephone number is +66 (0)80 829 0122 and the email is info@yachtrefitasia.com. Opening hours are not published.

What Phuket work is published?

Princess programmes in Phuket, Thailand, from December 2020 into 2021. Published scopes include interior panel and dashboard work, upholstery, gelcoat and veneer border repairs, interior and exterior sealant renewal, teak steps renewed in Burmese riftsawn teak, and floor bleaching. Yacht, client and yard names are not published.

What is a typical scope?

Where a specification calls for them, a typical owner's-side scope can include a condition survey, a written tender, comparison of quotes, dry dock coordination, interior and upholstery work, and dashboard refinishing. The published Phuket programmes do not all carry the same scope. Each one follows its own specification.

How does the Andaman season affect a Phuket refit?

In general terms, the Andaman coast has a cruising season and a monsoon season, and owners often plan refit work around the weeks they expect to be under way. Yacht Refit Asia does not publish a Phuket season calendar or opening hours. The date of a programme is agreed from the vessel, the specification and the places that can take the work.

Who is the project managed for?

The owner. Specification, tender comparison, budget, schedule and coordination stay with the project manager at the branch in Ocean Marina, Thailand. The company is not a Phuket shipyard.
